BTCV Employment Services delivers real results for employers and jobseekers alike
Kerry left school without qualifications and worked for a short time in a low skilled job. Five years later she found herself with two small children and no direction, “…going nowhere”. She asked for support from Job Centre Plus and was allocated a Lone Parent Advisor who referred her to BTCV Employment Services. When Kerry joined BTCV she was hoping to work in the retail sector.
Her Skills Analysis interview showed that Kerry had a keen interest in health and social care but believed her lack of qualifications and experience would prevent her finding work in this area.
A BTCV Employment Co-ordinator secured Kerry a 13-week placement with CANTO, working with young people who have learning disabilities and mental ill health. During the 13 week placement, a vacancy came up and CANTO encouraged Kerry to apply.
She is now employed as a Client Support Worker providing one-to-one support to two young people. Recently her role has developed and she will be leading group sessions. CANTO will support her while she gains her NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care.
Kerry said, “BTCV Employment Services has completely changed my life. Working here has made me realise I can move on and I can be happy.”
